Charles Magnante.
I was 16 years old when I had the opportunity to listen for the first time an old record of Charles Magnante. At the time I considered this fine artist like the non plus ultra of the accordion players. I listened like one thousand times that unforgettable MALAGUENA, FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE, TOCCATA in REm of Bach and many others, Wow, I’d never listened before to a such perfect techniche…that “EXCELSIOR” of Chas. sounded like a pipe organ for sure. Over the years I’ve listened to many accordion Masters, and surely some of them are superior performers that Mr. Magnante. However, that impression will last in me forever, and may be the reason that this gentleman is one of my favorites. Charles Magnante passed away many years ago, he was a formal musician, exquisite performer that did excellent with the classics and also with the populars. From Sambas and Rhumbas to the Classics…it was one of those rare persons that inspired many other to study the accordion.
